No idea as to what it was, I just know the year is right - and it said 'MADE in England' on the frame.

Back then there was less of the 'assembled vs made' BS...

I know the year is correct as it arrived in my local bike shop before xmas - was put in a glass box on the wall - and I bought it with my very first Military pay - hehe... (and a bunch savings at the time)

Still have it in storage (assuming it survived the 10 years it's been there - and the locker wasn't robbed)..... Pretty much all that's left is the frame from the original. All other parts are Modolo, Campy, Shimano, Look.... hehe... ancient gear.

But it was one of my favorites by far - excellent geometry and I personally like a stiff frame....

Anyway - stumbled on this thread looking for a new lawnmower - LOL - thanks for the memoryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-83272923799527069442018-12-06T21:45:11.773-05:002018-12-06T21:45:11.773-05:00I opened the headset on my 1983 “Competition” by R...I opened the headset on my 1983 “Competition” by Raleigh Cycle Company of America. Its one of the Japanese bikes with the 555sl sticker on the frame. The steer tube is clearly stamped “Tange 2 K”. If I knew how to post pics in this section I would. I know this is an old post, but I hope this helps to clarify the matter somewhat.Pcampeaunoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-50424620342700075722018-09-23T12:31:28.146-04:002018-09-23T12:31:28.146-04:00Thx for the excellent review of Reynolds 531 knock...Thx for the excellent review of Reynolds 531 knock-offs. Just picked up a Raleigh USA Grand Prix with the Raleigh 555 SL sticker. Completely fooled me! Had to go back and look at the sticker again!TPotterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17987417248551181420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-23202866805562121652016-05-12T12:07:12.147-04:002016-05-12T12:07:12.147-04:00I actually had one of the "Not Built With Rey...I actually had one of the "Not Built With Reynolds" stickers on my old SEKINE frame back in the mid-1970s; when some 'know-it-all' would see it and remark that he didn't know Sekine used 531 I would merely ask him to re-read the sticker out loud.

Haven't seen these decals since sometime in the 1980s. Even today, I would love to be able to get my hands on some more of them.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09231307196780365662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-16134538496311356482015-07-23T17:11:25.849-04:002015-07-23T17:11:25.849-04:00I actually had a T-shirt with the "Guaranteed...I actually had a T-shirt with the "Guaranteed not built with 531" logo.
