But a lot of experts are saying that the automated systems really should have been able to detect the woman crossing the road. Why they didn't is the big question.Brookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110998345857993287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-56805671624098145622018-03-22T17:10:55.235-04:002018-03-22T17:10:55.235-04:00So far, it seems that the only way to avoid such t...So far, it seems that the only way to avoid such tragedies with "driverless" cars is to take humans out of the equation altogether. That means, of course, that the technology would have to be completely foolproof and not have human interaction as a "last resort" for avoiding such mishaps.
Justine Valinottihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10852069587181432102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-64682502107593684702018-03-21T12:34:27.904-04:002018-03-21T12:34:27.904-04:00There's a discussion on another site I frequen...There's a discussion on another site I frequent, about these vehicles, and yes, both sides of the debate are present.

This one quickly popped up as "proof" of the "problem".

Do note, I'm not in favor of these things....

It was soon brought up that video of the incident, shows the woman pretty much dashing in front of the oncoming car.

Whether this is a case of crash for cash (as disturbing a concept as that is) or a case of two people not paying attention? I've hit deer on a few occasions now, and trust me, driverless car or no, if something jumps in your path fast enough, it's going to get ugly.

So, much ado about what may just be a tragedy? Likely because they were looking at their smartphone. AVs lull the human operator to become a non-participant.
