When I spotted a '93 XO-1 at the LBS, I told him about it, and he had me go back immediately and buy it for him. He visited me here in California and took it back with him to Hawaii. He rode it for years. A couple of years ago he passed away, but before he did, he gave the bike to me. I recently brought it back to California with me and started riding it. The light bulb in my brain finally went on. I get it now!SK in Californiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15287717278916910255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-84391141938818662022017-07-25T15:36:03.026-04:002017-07-25T15:36:03.026-04:00Perhaps a 650B wheel would be an improvement for 2...Perhaps a 650B wheel would be an improvement for 28 to 38 mm mm tires but ,as Jan Heine points out, 44+ mm tires can be just as fast and more comfortable to ride and his tests have shown that ,for these sizes , the 26 inch wheel is preferred.youcancallmeAlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02578252140097961816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-84478645502323142012016-12-18T21:02:11.007-05:002016-12-18T21:02:11.007-05:00Funny - we basically make these currently. I have never had trouble with the ride of 26"/559 wheels. The bike rides like a dream and feels lighter and more nimble than its successor, the Atlantis.
Closest budget bike in this realm would probably be the Surly Long Haul Trucker, but the geometry and feel are really not the same as the XO-1.
Should anyone bring back the XO-1? I'd say, that it isn't necessary, but it would be nice to see an off-the-shelf 26" rough-stuff bike again that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. bikelovejoneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16141991025526354179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-39003154370962276312014-03-29T19:44:08.259-04:002014-03-29T19:44:08.259-04:00I owned a 1992 XO-1 and really liked it while I ow...I owned a 1992 XO-1 and really liked it while I owned it; it went through a number of builds and niche uses including a gofast stage with purple anodized Sun M14A rims, 26X1" Turbos, and drop-bar-end Grip Shifts, later morphing into a nice commuter.

But I must say that, as nice as it was, Grant has moved on and up with the theme, with his Atlantis at one end and his "country bikes" at the other end -- Sam Hillborne, Saluki, Homer Hilsen; I daresay that my circa 2003 Rambouillet is as versatile as the '92 XO-1 even with its 700C wheels. I certainly have better performance with heavy rear loads with the Ram than the XO, though I forget now what sort of rack I used on the XO (Fly on the Ram).

IMO, the XO-1 -- perhaps the other XOs too -- were too much in between: unable to take 2" tires, too stoutly tubed for a nice gofast road bike, yet too lightly gauged and too short-stayed in the rear for heavy rear loads. There's no pump peg on the head tube. There's only one set of rear dropout eyelets. There are other little differences, but those are the 3 that bugged me the most. I'm not pointing fingers, because I knew all that before I bought it.

Tektro CR-720 brakes can be adjusted for 650b wheels. Others may work, too, but those are the ones I tried.Scott Lovelesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02859048971655178239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-6027355576691184212014-03-28T11:04:48.496-04:002014-03-28T11:04:48.496-04:00I own an XOXO and really enjoy the heck out of it....I own an XOXO and really enjoy the heck out of it. I won't say it's for everyone, but for my purposes it is just the right bike. I've not tried to fit 650's to it, and can't quite see how it's going to work unless I switch to something like Paul's Moto brakes with a lot of height adjustability. I'm happy with the 26" wheels though. I've got several older MTB's, so I have lots of rubber and wheels to swap around.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07372819403161557912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-58595347440803556752014-03-28T09:24:08.408-04:002014-03-28T09:24:08.408-04:00Very good -- thanks! Two things I notice about it -- welded frame, and 650b capability (though I don't know how they make the canti brake mounts work for both 26" and 650b)Brookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110998345857993287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-20881710843438603152014-03-28T09:00:06.871-04:002014-03-28T09:00:06.871-04:00Here ya go: http://handsomecycles.com/product/the-...Here ya go: http://handsomecycles.com/product/the-xoxo-classic-buildJameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03083052209350639553noreply@blogger.com
