I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the old educational films intriguing for their hidden meanings or out-dated notions.Brookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110998345857993287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-42814698162988478862014-11-25T15:20:41.770-05:002014-11-25T15:20:41.770-05:00I love your posts about films. Old PSA movies are indeed fascinating for what they reveal about attitudes and prejudices.

One thing I find interesting is that in the beginning, a man is driving the car and a little girl is on a bicycle. But, by the end, the girl becomes a young woman who's crushing the bicycle under the car she's just begun to drive. That speaks volumes about attitudes toward gender and power, not to mention bicycles and automobiles, that prevailed at the time--and, in some places, still prevail.Justine Valinottihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10852069587181432102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-80260260118147832492014-11-25T06:38:58.340-05:002014-11-25T06:38:58.340-05:00The Archive is a good source. I don't know if you've read the other articles in this "series" but I used to teach a film class and I have a pretty good collection of old educational films. They're mostly "public domain" nowadays as the companies that made them are defunct.Brookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110998345857993287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492685525705691186.post-34635314491433698452014-11-25T04:32:11.331-05:002014-11-25T04:32:11.331-05:00"I'm Ike. I'm...a bike!" I'm..."I'm Ike. I'm...a bike!" I'm always scouring archive.org for PSA stuff like this and found this one particularly amusing. At least GM acknowledged bicycles back then, albeit from the standpoint of "watch out for those squirrely cyclists, kids!"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16916475081711086964noreply@blogger.com
