After failing (miserably)
the BikeRadar quiz
on "Do You Know Your Mountain Bikes"
(believe me, I'll get over it) I decided to create my own quiz on classic road bike bits. Identifying current mountain bikes by their blackened silhouettes just isn't in my repertoire. And as I mentioned previously, putting silhouettes of vintage road bikes up could be even more difficult to identify. For example, can you tell what this bike is by its silhouette?
|Hint: It starts with "M" and rhymes with kamikazi.|
Classic steel bikes are about details, and while the details can go much deeper than elements like lugs, it seems to me that lugs are a good place to start.
So with that, I present you with a little 10-question quiz.
Try it, and report in the comments on how you did!
It was apparently harder than I thought. SorryDelete
zero, takes 'skill' to score that much less that random chanceDelete
4/10, Not gonna lie, pretty happy with my sick lug skills.ReplyDelete
It's not showing.ReplyDelete
That's odd - I've checked it on Mac, PC, and iPad, and it always comes up. Not sure why it's not coming up for you. Sorry.Delete
Works great in linux. Are you using some kind of adblocker? I have to disable ABP when replying.Delete
2/10 hard time with the sachs lugs (never saw one here in Europe) and the cinnelis that i recognised as cinelli, but i had the exact model wrong.ReplyDelete
The nervex i got.
But yeah, its hard. I like lugs, all my bikes have them,i can racognise them if i saw them before but i don't their names...
I've been a fan of "fancy" lugs since the 1950s, but only scored 50% here because I can't tell the "plain" ones apart, nor do I much care for them.ReplyDelete
4/10 with semi-random guessing.ReplyDelete
Welp, I got three of ten and guessed each one. I already knew I don't know lugs so would have been as pleased as possible with any outcome.ReplyDelete
9/10 without any help. Yes, I'm old and have been around bikes forever.ReplyDelete
2/10 using the dirty hack of picking the longest answer. But being a teacher you probably knew that one !ReplyDelete
damn...1/10! Oh well, I got 8/10 on the mountain bike quiz. FWIW, my road bike is brazed steel, though I do like lugs too. Lugged bikes I've owned: an old Schwinn of unknown heritage, an Italian-made Puch, a Battaglin, a Masi, and not that it counts but a Trek aluminum mountain bike.ReplyDelete
Don't feel too bad -- It's apparently a lot harder than I thought.Delete
